First Year Experience
Your first-year experience will be like nothing you’ve ever experienced! From a full-blown week of fun planned just for you in STAMPEDE to courses and communities created just for you in FYSMs and FIGs, there’s a lot to love about your first year at HSU.
We’ve been waiting, planning, and preparing for you to be on campus. So, make the most of your new-found freedom, your growing faith, your new friends, and your personal faculty in your first-year experience!
Designed to make your transition smooth and comfortable, STAMPEDE offers everything from fun activities to valuable information. You don’t want to miss this memorable time!
Required of your first semester, each course provides specialized content as well as a general overview of helpful resources for new students. For the first time, you’ll discover the HSU difference: the spirit of Christ’s love in faculty, the education enlightened by Christian faith and values.
First-Year Seminar (FYSM) Mentors
Here to support you, First-Year Mentors are upper-class students assigned to STAMPEDE groups and First-Year Seminars. These students come alongside you to assist and enhance your first year, providing their experiences and knowledge.
Mentors spend 6 hours per week during the Fall semester, 3 hours inside the FYSM 1300 classroom. The remaining hours are spent connecting individually with FYSM students outside of class, engaging in group activities, and completing administrative tasks assigned by the FYSM instructor.
If you are an undergraduate sophomore, junior or senior who is interested in serving as a First-Year Seminar Mentor for the 2021 – 2022 school year, please click HERE to access the application. Applications are due, Wednesday, January 20 at 11:59 p.m.
