• CLEP

    The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is designed to evaluate atypical educational experiences. Students who have never enrolled for any college credit in a particular course* and who score at or above indicated scores may earn credit through the General and/or Subject Examinations.
    *Note: Enrollment in the equivalent class prevents the student from attempting credit by examination in the class.

    Step 1 - Register and Pay for your CLEP on the College Board website

    $85 payable to CLEP (requires online payment)
    $15 ($25 for English exams) HSU Testing Center fee (cash only)

    How to Register for the CLEP

    • Go to the official CLEP website: http://clep.collegeboard.org/.
    • Create an account.
    • Use your account to register for the CLEP exam.
    • Print your ticket ID.

    Step 2 - Reserve the Testing Room

    Exams are administered by appointment only. To reserve the Testing Room, please complete the web form found online at www.hsutx.edu/offices/academic-advising/testing-registration/. In most cases, the Testing Center must be reserved 48 hours in advance.

    Step 3 - Study
    The College Board website has practice questions. You may also find a limited supply of study guides in the Richardson Library (HSU) or your local public library.

    Step 4 - Go to Sandefer Memorial room 210 at your reserved time. You MUST bring your Ticket ID, a photo ID, and the Testing Center Fee (cash only) with you on test day

    Use of the following is prohibited:

    • Cellular phones
    • Graphing Calculator
    • Calculator watches
    • Dictionaries, book, pamphlets
    • Any paper except what is provided by HSU
    • Slide rules, protractors, compasses, rulers
    • Highlighter pens and/or colored pencils
    • Alarm wristwatches
    • Listening devices
    • Laptop computers
    • Hats
    • Backpacks
    • Food or drink

    To be awarded credit for foreign language, the student must demonstrate a writing proficiency by writing an acceptable essay and a speaking proficiency by adding an Oral Interview. Contact the Department Head of Foreign Language to schedule(Rosario.Hall@hsutx.edu).
