I love our HSU travelers! Allow me to walk alongside you to make your trip experience joyful, engaging, and worry-free.
“Exceeded my expectations! As someone who has always been responsible for trip planning, it was a relief to have someone else lead the charge.”
“The best way to do hands-off traveling (everything is preplanned). Learn the most and experience the most. Best bang for your buck.”
“My wife and I had a wonderful time. The cruise line is wonderful, food was great, cabins were modern and comfortable. We loved the convenience of waking up in a new port for sightseeing almost every day! Megan from GoNext was incredible, a true energizer bunny that radiates joy and light! She was so much fun and a true servant. Finally, we enjoyed traveling with the group from HSU. This is our second trip with the Traveling Range Riders as we accompanied some dear friends who are both HSU graduates. Brit Jones has organized and been on both trips, and she is delightful and a great ambassador for HSU in the way she treats and serves others. She is a gem. “-Curt & Kim Van De Walle (HSU friends)
“I wanted to see the Passion Play in Europe that is produced every 10 years, and I wanted to cruise the Danube. When HSU offered a trip to Oberammergau, the trip seemed perfect! I felt I could trust that the arrangements would be reasonable and more importantly I would be safe, and the people I would travel with would be amicable. My hopes were spot-on. I had a fabulous time filled with the wonder of centuries-old architecture, snow covered mountains, museums with ancient artifacts, horrific remnants of WW2, the company of those who still wanted to learn, and scrumptious European cuisine. I am proud to be a part of the Traveling Range Riders and look forward to again experiencing other parts of the world with those associated with HSU, my alma mater.” Mahalo, Debbie Tom Keith ’72
The best trip I’ve ever taken with a group!
“In summer of 2022, I joined the HSU Traveling Range Riders for Cruising the Danube and the Oberammergau Passion Play. It was such a delightful experience in every way that I went in 2023 with HSU to Ireland and am cruising the Mediterranean in 2024. To share HSU connections while making wonderful memories is something not to be missed.” Sherry Barsch ’64
“We have been on two Traveling Range Rider trips… we are impressed with the quality of accommodations and activities… there are always so many scheduled activities and sights to see as well as plenty of time to explore on your own. Guides are always knowledgeable and helpful. It is so fun traveling with old friends and making new ones along the way!!” -Teresa Bunch Garrett ’82 & Tony Garrett ’82
“Really enjoyed the new experiences and spending time with new friends.”
“Traveling to the Netherlands was my first trip with inspiring HSU alumni which became a very positive one. I did get to know great alumni I had not met or with whom I had not even attended classes at our university. I wouldn’t hesitate to go on a future trip. I do hope to select another one soon.” -Ernestine Meyer ’64
The trip was well planned, and Britt was a kind, patient, and inspirational shepherd. -Jananne & Les McLaughlin (HSU friends)
The entire trip was awesome, and I think the best I’ve ever participated in. – Barbara Ringwald (HSU friend)
“I was so well informed it gave me peace of mind whole trip. Was truly able to just relax and enjoy the trip.”
“It’s like we were family; everyone was having a good time and laughing together.”
“The ship, the excursions and the support from Britt and David were fantastic. This itinerary was perfect as an introduction to Italy and the French Riviera.” Larry Wolz ’73
“We had the time of our lives getting to explore the beauty and history of the Greek Islands and Turkey with like-minded travelers. One of the highlights of the trip was running into a young HSU alumni couple celebrating their honeymoon in Santorini! The purple and gold shouts loudly all around the world! We had such a great time that …we signed up to travel again with HSU to Ireland in June!” Leigh Weathersbee Evans ’76 & Richard Evans ’76
“What a wonderful adventure I had exploring the Galápagos Islands with the HSU Traveling Range Riders in March 2022! I would not trade one moment of our exciting day trips visiting unique, beautiful islands with jaw-dropping scenery, and getting ‘up-close & personal’ with amazing animals from giant Tortugas to blue-footed boobies! Every detail was taken care of by our wonderful crew; the meticulous pre-planning resulted in an effortless travel experience. I will definitely travel again with this wonderful program!” – Gail Beam Carpenter ’71
“Well managed and focused on providing the best experience a traveler could hope to have.” Kathy Walker, HSU friend
Leave the planning to us and fully enjoy the journey. The Traveling Range Riders program is dedicated to giving travelers enriching cultural experiences to enhance lifelong education while strengthening their connection with each other and Hardin-Simmons University.
With HSU, you’ll have the opportunity to explore regions in every corner of the world. Our itineraries offer an exciting blend of exotic destinations and traditional locales and are led by experienced guides and, whenever possible, an HSU host. We work with the most respected travel vendors in the industry to bring you high-quality opportunities to broaden your travel and intellectual horizons.
While the HSU connection is an important component of our program, our trips are open to all travel enthusiasts – alumni, family members, and friends alike – who want to take part in educational travel opportunities, ensuring a richer, more diverse experience for all!
The opportunity to explore the world with HSU’s Traveling Range Riders and the Alumni Association is open to all HSU alumni, family, and friends.
A minimum number of participants is required to secure the services of an HSU host.
We make every effort to send a host on as many departures as possible as we know this greatly enhances the travelers’ experience and makes the trip unique.
If this is important to you in making your decision to travel with our program, please contact us to confirm our faculty/staff hosted tours and for more information.
Throughout your trip, you’ll be accompanied by a seasoned Travel Director, an expert who is familiar with the language and customs of the region. Your Travel Director takes care of every detail of your journey, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the experience
Brochures or other available information may be requested from the HSU Traveling Range Riders office (travel@hsutx.edu, 325-670-1377). You can also request information through our online form: Traveling Range Riders Information Request (wufoo.com)
Brochures for each trip will be mailed by the tour operator approximately 6-9 months prior to departure. However, each tour operator makes their own decision about how many brochures to mail, so not everyone in our travel pool receives every brochure.
In most cases, there is no need to wait for a brochure to reserve space on a tour. Many tours fill quickly, and we encourage you to call the tour operator to help you make your decision.
For upcoming trip information, call or email Program Director Britt Jones ’84 (travel@hsutx.edu 325-670-1377), click here to request a brochure about any (or all) upcoming trip, or click here to be added to our mailing list.
Most of our travel partners offer special discounts throughout the year. In many cases, these special discounts are an Early Booking Discount price. Book early to get the best price and to take advantage of special amenities (see each trip brochure for more details).
To register for the various travel opportunities listed on our website, you can either contact the respective tour operator for that program. or contact Program Director Britt Jones ’84 (travel@hsutx.edu 325-670-1377). Contact information for the tour operators will be outlined in individual trip brochures.
All trip pricing is per person based on double occupancy, or two people sharing a room or cabin, unless otherwise stated.
Many of the trips offered will require a single supplement for those who wish to travel alone, unless specified by a “no single supplement” or “reduced single supplement” note or icon.
That said, you can book for yourself pending the addition of a travel-mate.
On most tours, a limited number of single rooms are available.
Our tour operators provide personalized assistance in coordinating your arrangements. This approach necessarily less expensive but doing so will make sure you either arrive in the appropriate airport-ship/hotel window or have a transfer arranged if out of that window, plus they will monitor your flight leading up to your departure and also once you’re underway and will be ready to make adjustments if flights are delayed/cancelled.
- Dedicated after-hours support in the event of delays or cancellations
- Arrival and departure transfers on group dates
- Personalized, expert support from a dedicated Air Coordinator from booking to return
- Extensive research to secure routes that best suit your itinerary with comfort and value in mind
- Flight options competitive with online sites
- Confirmed seat assignments at the time of booking on most airlines
To lock in low airfares, some of our tour operators have negotiated special rates with major airlines that may require you to take non-direct flights.
If you book your flights through our tour operators, the small fee for this service also includes a 24-hr hotline while you are in transit should there be significant flight disruptions or cancellations.
Please feel free to discuss “land only” options with the tour operator should you desire a more direct flight or want to use frequent flyer miles.
HSU’s Traveling Range Riders program has no control over air travel and sometimes challenging airport infrastructures.
Important to remember: If you book your own flights, you are responsible for making connections with the main group. For certain trips, you may join the main arrival and departure transfers if your flights arrive and depart within the specified arrival and departure transfer windows, respectively. These transfers must be arranged and paid for in advance of your departure.
While we are optimistic that all of our tours will receive high reservation numbers, there is no way to predict the response to a particular tour.
Our group sizes could range from as small as 2 people to as large as 36.
If it’s one of our HSU exclusive, faculty-led tours, the group size will generally be kept to a maximum size of 24.
You can always call the HSU Traveling Range Riders office to check the status of a trip’s group size before or after you book a tour.
Tour participants are subject to cancellation penalties as outlined in the individual trip brochures. Cancellation penalties are structured to coincide with advance payments that our tour operators must make to their suppliers, and the penalties are strictly enforced due to these contractual commitments.
Because our tour operators have different cancellation policies, please make sure that you understand all cancellation penalties prior to making your trip deposit. Each tour operator has a unique cancellation and refund policy.
Please review each trip brochure carefully prior to reserving space on a tour.
We also strongly encourage purchasing trip cancellation insurance.
Travel Insurance is more important than ever and we highly recommend it. We urge you to purchase optional travel insurance that covers a variety of important, travel-related contingencies including:
- Trip Cancellation
- Trip Interruption or Trip Delay
- Accident and Sickness Medical Expense
- Accidental Death or Dismemberment
- Emergency Evacuation and Repatriation
- Baggage and Personal Effects
- Baggage Delay
- Optional expanded cancellation coverage (Cancelflex)
Passports must be valid for six months after your program’s return date. If you need to apply for a passport or renew your passport, please do so immediately because your passport information is required to make your travel and accommodations arrangements.
- The U.S. State Department offers online renewals for passport holders who meet certain requirements. You can review full details here: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports.html/passport_1738.html/
- The U.S. State Department and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/canadian-passports.html) issue passports to U.S. and Canadian citizens, respectively.
- Pinnacle Travel Document Systems (https://www.pinnacletds.com/AHITravel) can assist U.S. passengers with passport applications and renewals.
- Canadian citizens must apply for or renew passports on their own through an official passport office or Service Canada location; the Canadian government does not allow third-party services to assist with passports.
After booking your trip, you will find specific visa requirements, if applicable, for your destinations on the passenger portal. The Entry Requirements document includes specific actions you might need to take to obtain a visa in advance.

PROGRAM ITINERARY
Day 1 | Sunday, September 27 DEPART HOME CITY for London, England.
Day 2 | Monday, September 28 LONDON, ENGLAND | COTSWOLDS R
Arrive at Heathrow International Airport in London. Transfer to Cheltenham, the Cotswolds and check in to the first-class Queens Hotel Cheltenham. Unpack and settle in this afternoon. Make your own plans for lunch, and start exploring the area, if you wish. The Gohagan Travel Hospitality Desk stands ready with dining and itinerary suggestions. Welcome Reception: Join your fellow travelers for a Welcome Reception at the hotel this evening. Then make your own plans for dinner.
Day 3 | Tuesday, September 29 DAYLESFORD FARM | COTSWOLDS VILLAGES B | L
Begin each day at the hotel with a scrumptious breakfast buffet.
Daylesford Farm. This morning travel to Daylesford Farm, located in the heart of the Cotswolds, between the villages of Kingham and Stow-on-the-Wold. This organic farm has promoted sustainable practices for some 40 years, growing produce and raising animals with the utmost consideration for the environment and animal welfare. Begin with a private talk focusing on sustainability and foraging. Then harvest fresh produce from the market garden and, using these ingredients, cook lunch under the guidance of a Daylesford Organic tutor. Savor the fruits of your labor for lunch.
Cotswold Villages. This afternoon, visit the market square of Stow-on-the-Wold, a historic wool town. At 800 feet above sea level, Stow-on-the-Wold has the highest elevation of the Cotswold villages. Don’t miss St. Edwards church and its famous North Door — flanked by two ancient yew trees, this unique portal supposedly inspired J.R.R. Tolkien’s Doors of Durin in “The Lord of the Rings.” Next stop: Bourton-on-the-Water, known as the “Venice of the Cotswolds” for its five stone bridges spanning the town’s centerpiece, the Windrush River.
Free Time: Tonight, make your own plans for dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 4 | Wednesday, September 30 BLENHEIM PALACE | OXFORD B | D
Free Time: Spend this morning at leisure, exploring on your own. Make your own plans for lunch before departing for today’s excursions.
~Blenheim Palace. Built between 1705 and 1724, this palace is part of a 2,100-acre estate and was a gift from the English Parliament to John Churchill, First Duke of Marlborough, to thank him for his war service. Sir Winston Churchill was born here, and the estate remains in the Churchill family. Blenheim Palace was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1987. Tour the Palace State Rooms and the Churchill Exhibition.
~Oxford University. On this illustrious campus, tour Christ Church Cathedral, which reflects the university’s monastic origins. Explore Christ Church College, initially founded in 1525 by Cardinal Wolsey. It is the largest of the Oxford Colleges and claims 13 prime ministers as alumni. Traverse the Tudor-era Tom Quad to arrive at Tom Tower, which was designed by Sir Christopher Wren and built in 1681 to house a bell (aptly named Great Tom). Step into the dark-paneled, portrait-lined dining hall with its vaulted ceilings, which may remind you of the Great Hall of Hogwarts. Finally, learn about “Christ Church time”—which is five minutes later than Greenwich Mean Time. Enjoy an included group dinner at a local restaurant or pub in Oxford.
~Bodleian Library & Radcliffe Camera Private Tour. This evening, indulge in a memorable private after-hours tour of the Bodleian Library & Radcliffe Camera. The original library at Oxford, which began as the Duke Humfrey’s library, dates to 1488. After a period of its decline, Sir Thomas Bodley championed the refurbishment of the library and it re-opened its doors to scholars in 1602. In the subsequent 400 years, generations of scholars — from Sir Walter Raleigh to Hugh Grant— have studied here. Alumni include monarchs, Nobel Prize winners, British prime ministers, an American president (can you guess which one?), and writers such as W.H. Auden, T.S. Eliot, Oscar Wilde, C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. (The President? Bill Clinton.)
Day 5 | Thursday, October 1 CHAVENAGE HOUSE B
Spend this morning at leisure, taking advantage of the hotel amenities or exploring the town.
Village Life Forum: Hear from local residents about their history and lifestyle in the Cotswolds. Feel free to ask questions during this interesting discussion!
Afterward, lunch on your own in a nearby eatery before departing for an afternoon excursion.
Chavenage House. Chavenage House is over 400 years old and was built in an Elizabethan architectural style. It has been visited by many British notables over the years, including Oliver Cromwell, King Charles and Princes William and Harry. It has also been used as a filming location for myriad productions, including the PBS series “Poldark” and “Wolf Hall.”
The Lowsley-Williams family have owned and lived at Chavenage since 1891. A family member will give you a fascinating private tour of the house and grounds. Afterward, the family member and an estate worker will host you for afternoon tea and an informal discussion about life and work at Chavenage.
Free Time: This evening, enjoy dinner on your own.
Day 6 | Friday, October 2 CHELTENHAM | HIDCOTE GARDEN B
Cheltenham Walking Tour. Setting off from your very own Queen’s Hotel (which is itself a Regency building dating from 1837) stroll along this charming town’s streets and learn about its Regency history. After mineral springs were discovered here in 1716, Cheltenham became a spa town, drawing a holiday crowd. During your tour, you may see the Pump Room, an integral part of the spa, several interesting sculptures, and composer Gustav Holst’s birthplace.
Hidcote Garden Tour. Hidcote is a world-famous Arts and Crafts-inspired garden covering over 10 acres near the village of Chipping Camden. The genius behind the garden was avid gardener and landscape designer Major Lawrence Johnston, who created Hidcote in phases between 1907 and 1938. The garden combines smaller, more formal rooms and larger-scale landscapes. Enjoy a guided tour through this lovely greenspace.
Day 7 | Saturday, October 3 STRATFORD-UPON-AVON B
Stratford-upon-Avon. Explore the life of Shakespeare during a tour of this lovely medieval riverside market town. Marvel at the treasures held in the Shakespeare Birthplace Trusts’ Shakespeare Library and Archive Collections, which is listed on the UNESCO Memory of the World register. Free Time: Enjoy lunch on your own in Stratford, then spend some time this afternoon at leisure. Stroll the riverfront, discover Magic Alley, browse the shops or take a boat ride on the Avon River. Anne Hathaway’s Cottage. Visit the childhood home of Shakespeare’s wife, Anne Hathaway. It was built in 1463 and lived in by 13 generations of her family. Anne was born in the cottage in 1556; William would have visited her there while courting her. Note the lovely, manicured gardens around the cottage. Return to the hotel and make your own plans for dinner.
Day 8 | Sunday, October 4 SUDELEY CASTLE B | D
Sudeley Castle Tour. Over a thousand years old and regally situated on 1,200 acres, Sudeley Castle is an eye-popping estate. And it has an impressive pedigree; the castle’s royal connections have played an important role in British history throughout time. Queen Catherine Parr, the last and surviving wife of King Henry VIII, lived and died in the castle, and was buried here. (Sudeley is England’s only privately held castle to have a queen buried on the grounds.)
Over the centuries, the castle was a place of refuge for Charles I and Richard III, and it was visited by Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn, Lady Jane Grey and Elizabeth I, among others. During a guided tour, marvel at the rooms and their artifacts and treasures, and stroll the grounds, which hold ten separate gardens. Take in the fascinating exhibits featuring replicas of gowns worn by Henry VIII’s six wives and copies of books published by Catherine Parr —the first queen to have her work published. Free Time: Make your own plans for lunch and spend the afternoon at leisure.
Farewell Dinner: Tonight, travel to the Falcon Pub in the village of Painswick (known as the “Queen of the Cotswolds”) to enjoy a traditional pub dinner in a beautiful Georgian townhouse. A local folk duo will join us to talk about the history of folk music in the Cotswolds and to perform.
Day 9 | Monday, October 5 COTSWOLDS | LONDON | RETURN TO HOME CITY
Following breakfast, check out of the hotel and transfer to Heathrow International Airport for your return flight home. Arrive in your home city and go through immigration and customs.

Orbridge President Jim Staples spearheaded this endeavor in 2019 as a way to offset the company’s carbon footprint, starting in the state of Wisconsin. Over the last six years, we’ve planted 100,000 trees annually throughout Wisconsin state forests and other Department of Natural Resource-owned lands. A recent gift of seedlings brings that number near our target of 1,000,000. “We deeply appreciate Orbridge’s commitment to supporting reforestation and the benefits it brings,” says Teague Prichard, a state forest specialist with Wisconsin’s Bureau of Forestry Operation. “This partnership has been fantastic.” Our sustainability initiatives don’t stop there. In addition to a company-wide dedication to recycling and using recycled materials, we support the health of our planet by partnering with a Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certified Printer—ensuring that the paper used contains fiber from well-managed and responsibly harvested forests.
We are destination specialists.
We focus on destinations that offer those life-changing experiences you’ll never forget. Places with historical significance, stunning natural beauty, engaging people, treasures waiting to be discovered and unique experiences you may not even know exist. Then we combine them with outstanding properties and ships, specially crafted excursions, and knowledgeable guides and expedition leaders to create days you will remember. Kayak among beluga whales in Churchill, walk among penguin colonies in Antarctica, make pasta from scratch with a celebrated chef in Northern Italy—the choice is yours.
We know people–people you will want to know. Our expedition leaders, local guides and property owners will help you discover a location’s most spectacular features. Taste varietals with the owner of a small Spanish winery, track polar bears with a modern day pioneer in Northern Canada, dine with a Peruvian family in the Andes, or dance with Masai warriors in Tanzania. Your time with these unforgettable people is what makes a journey special. Come join them for days that will change you forever.
Attention to detail matters. Our Guest Services team is staffed by well-traveled professionals who provide personalized attention, ensuring all your questions are answered and all the details of your trip are explained to you. As the preferred provider of exclusive travel programs for North America’s most prestigious alumni associations, museums and cultural institutions, we offer enrichment opportunities on board and excursions designed to enhance and illuminate the culture, history and traditions of our destinations—including private or early admission to museums and specially arranged architectural site visits.
Traveling with like-minded, affinity travelers can transform an ordinary trip into an extraordinary journey. Whether it’s private museum access, specially arranged visits, or onboard lectures that bring destinations to life, our journeys in partnership with Gohagan & Company are designed to illuminate the culture, history, and traditions of each place we explore—while fostering a sense of connection and lifelong learning among our travelers. It’s not just about where you go – it’s about who you go with.
Gohagan & Company is proud to provide the most exclusively chartered ships in affinity travel—the ideal way to explore the destinations on our one-of-a-kind itineraries. Exclusively chartered cruising provides the optimum setting for affinity groups; there is control over the entire ship. The Five-Star ships we charter for our ocean cruises and deluxe, small river ships used on our other programs provide access to ports often inaccessible to larger vessels.
Experience the world with insight from a wide variety of faculty lecturers and a prestigious roster of acclaimed guest speakers that includes such luminaries as Dwight David Eisenhower II, grandson of General and President Dwight D. Eisenhower; and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and former President of Poland Lech Walesa. Travelers also engage in forums with local residents as part of their immersion into daily life and local culture with our popular Village Life®, Island Life®, River Life®, Coastal Life® and Town & Country Life® program series.

We specialize in many types of programs.
- National Parks programs provide the chance to visit historic North American parks and landmarks, and to learn about their natural history, wildlife and native people, all while staying at historic hotels and lodges that capture their truly American spirit. From the Canadian Rockies to the Grand Canyon, from Yellowstone to Zion National Park, we explore the many great natural wonders of the U.S. and Canada.
- Small ship explorations offer flexible itineraries, cozy accommodations and personal service with the ability to explore areas where larger ships simply cannot go. Whether it’s viewing glaciers in Alaska or exploring the diverse wildlife in the Galapagos, our small ships offer unparalleled access and a relaxing pace you’ll love.
- Specialty land programs take you to exotic destinations to see the world’s natural history and wildlife treasures. From Northern Canada to Machu Picchu or Tanzania and everywhere in between—with experienced guides, world famous properties and expert Orbridge Expedition Leaders. We’ll be a few feet away from the alpha land predator on earth (the Polar Bear), we’ll see the tens of thousands of herbivores and the lions, cheetahs, hyena and others who follow them in the Serengeti, and the famous (and controversial) Wolves of Yellowstone. You will see the highlights you know about, and the hidden treasures, interesting people and special features we can’t wait to show you.
The combined strength of our dynamic programming provides new resources and capabilities—all supported by knowledgeable professionals dedicated to guest satisfaction.

Hardin-Simmons highly recommends each traveler consider travel insurance. Our tour operators have relationships with certain insurance providers, which they will share with travelers, and an internet search will reveal other possible providers.
Avoiding Jet Lag
There is no singular cure for jet lag. Before departure, get ample rest, as being well-rested when you depart will allow you to better ward off jet lag symptoms. During your flight(s), be certain to drink plenty of water to counteract the dehydrating effects of air travel.
The goal is to adjust to your new time zone as quickly as possible, so follow this simple rule of thumb: if you are arriving in the morning, sleep on the plane so you will have energy for the day; if you are arriving in the evening, stay awake during the flight so you can sleep soundly at your destination.

Americans will need a Travel Authorization to visit Europe starting in mid-2025.
The rules of travel to most European countries have changed. Starting in mid-2025, some 1.4 billion people from over 60 visa-exempt countries are required to have a travel authorization to enter 30 European countries for a short stay. ETIAS travel authorization is linked to a traveler’s passport. It is valid for up to three years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. If you get a new passport, you need to get a new ETIAS travel authorization. With a valid ETIAS travel authorization, you can enter the territory of these European countries as often as you want for short-term stays – normally for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. However, it does not guarantee entry. When you arrive, a border guard will ask to see your passport and other documents and verify that you meet the entry conditions.
