Save the Date for Western Heritage Day

Hardin-Simmons University will host its 42nd annual Western Heritage Day on Thursday, April 25, 2024. The event is free and open to the public.

When: Thursday, April 25, 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

Where: Anderson Lawn, HSU Campus

Parking: To ensure the safety of participants, parking will be limited,, and various roads on campus will be closed. Do not enter campus from Ambler Ave. to Hickory St. Do not attempt to park or drive within the red lines on the map below. Green areas will be available.

The university expects a large attendance, with more than 3,900 school-aged children scheduled to participate throughout the day.

The educational event is free to all Big Country primary-aged students and schools, as well as daycare providers and homeschoolers. Children will be able to experience what true Western culture might have been like in Abilene during the 1800s.

There will be booths, demonstrations, and fun activities for all to enjoy, including:

  • Small Farm Animal Petting Area
  • Folk Music & Dancing
  • Western Melodramas & Storytelling
  • HSU Branding Pit
  • Farrier
  • Homemade biscuits
  • Chuck Wagon
  • Ft. Griffin Longhorn Herd
  • Texas Buffalo Soldiers from Texas Parks & Wildlife
  • Western Washing Demonstration
  • HSU Six White horses and World-Famous Cowboy Band
