HSU and Western Texas College Establish New Transfer Agreement
Hardin-Simmons University hosted representatives from Western Texas College this week as the two institutions formalized a new articulation agreement aimed at expanding educational opportunities for students throughout the region.
The agreement establishes a well-defined pathway for students who begin their studies at Western Texas College to transfer their completed coursework toward a bachelor’s degree at Hardin-Simmons University. By aligning academic requirements between the two institutions, the partnership helps remove obstacles that can delay graduation and supports students as they continue their educational journey.
We’re excited to start with students at the beginning and then hand them off to a good place.
University leaders noted that the agreement reflects a shared focus on guiding students from their starting point all the way to completing a four-year degree. Through this collaboration, both institutions are working to provide a more seamless and supportive experience for those pursuing higher education.
“I’m thrilled about the partnership with Western Texas College and Hardin-Simmons University because we now have the ability to give students a clear pathway to a 4-year or higher degree,” said Dr. Laurie Sharp, President of Western Texas College. “We’re excited to start with students at the beginning and then hand them off to a good place.”
As part of the agreement, students may transfer up to 66 credit hours into a bachelor’s program at Hardin-Simmons, creating a more efficient route to degree completion while helping reduce both time and cost.
The partnership also highlights a mutual commitment to improving access to higher education, supporting workforce development, and offering affordable academic options for students across West Texas.
“We’re extremely excited about this partnership,” said Stephanie Ducheneaux, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Western Texas College. “It’s always nice when you work at a community college to be able to tell the students that they have a path forward. When we make partnerships like this, it makes it easier for them to know the transition is there.”
Both institutions plan to review the agreement regularly to ensure academic programs remain aligned and continue to meet the evolving needs of students.
Hardin-Simmons University looks forward to building on this partnership with Western Texas College as the two schools work together to open more doors for students and support their long-term success.
