(ABILENE, Texas)–The Fall 2019 Commencement ceremonies for Hardin-Simmons University took place on Dec. 13 in Behrens Auditorium.

The morning ceremony celebrated the graduates of the Cynthia Ann Parker College of Liberal Arts, Holland School of Sciences, Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing, and Logsdon School of Theology. The afternoon ceremony celebrated the graduates of the Kelley College of Business, College of Human Sciences and Educational Studies, and College of Fine Arts.

In total, 222 students graduated in the Fall 2019 ceremonies. Of the 100 undergraduate and 122 graduate students participating in commencement, 38 graduated with honors.

Each year, those finishing their degrees in August are invited to participate in the December ceremonies. In 2019, 72 students completed their degree plans in August, including 46 undergraduate, 44 graduate, and two post-graduate students. Three of these students graduated with honors.

HSU presented Abilene native Jay Taylor Moore ’82 with an honorary doctorate during the afternoon ceremony. Moore completed high school at Cooper High School in 1978 before completing his undergraduate education at HSU. He served as a history teacher at Abilene High School for many years and now makes numerous presentations covering the history of Abilene at various events throughout the Big Country and on his podcast, “Abilene History in Plain Sight.”

HSU congratulates our August and December graduates, and wishes these exceptional students the best in their bright futures.
