Hardin-Simmons named a 2018-2019 College of Distinction

Hardin-Simmons University was named to the 2018-2019 Colleges of Distinction list as a Texas College of Distinction and Christian College of Distinction. HSU received acclamations in the fields of business and nursing as well as in its overall high educational standards.

“Academic excellence continues as a priority at Hardin-Simmons University as it has for more than a century,” the website praised. “Small classes taught by experienced scholars give the opportunity for interactive learning. The institution’s commitment to excellence is best illustrated through the lives of graduates who traditionally have excelled in any career they have chosen.”

The list highlighted HSU’s high-impact practices including First-Year Seminars, Diversity/Global Learning, and Service Learning/Community-Based Learning.

“From the world famous Cowboy Band and Six White Horses to a vibrant campus ministry, students are constantly involved,” the list stated. “When not partaking in their studies, they are sure to be involved in a number of extracurricular activities.”

HSU was recognized for its 12 to 1 student-to-faculty ratio and its 75% retention rate, 15% higher than the national average. Distinctive programs were also recognized, including the Honors Program. Leadership Studies, Study Abroad, and International Students.

“Hardin-Simmons is a place where relationships really matter,” the website said. “Complementing the warmth of family and community is the vitality of an academic program offering more than 50 major and minor programs.”

The list recognized HSU’s vibrant student life program, Stampede Week, and Living Learning Communities.

“Hardin-Simmons’ commitment to excellence is best illustrated through the lives of graduates who traditionally have excelled in a wide variety of fields,” the website praised.

The website mentioned several distinctive alumni including leaders in the medical field, inventors, television actors, business executives, and professional athletes.
