DELTA Sisterhood Retreat

The DELTA Women’s Greek Social Club embarked on a Sisterhood Retreat last weekend to Rockport, Texas. Established in 1960, the club aims to build a community of Godly women who love each other and create bonds that will last a lifetime. One way the club fulfills this goal is by going on a sisterhood retreat once every year.

I joined DELTA in the fall of 2022 after attending multiple rush events. At these events, I saw a group of girls who loved each other and enjoyed having a fun time. I got the opportunity to attend my first sisterhood retreat this year, so I would like to share the experience from my point of view.

We left campus on Friday, April 12, and arrived in Rockport later in the evening. Maddox Carr, a junior and the organization’s chaplain, planned the retreat. On the first night, Maddox led the group through a Bible study themed on the fruits of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control), and for fun, she assigned a fruit to each fruit of the Spirit. For example, strawberries were used to depict love. It was a beautiful evening spent listening to God’s Word, and enjoying the feeling of togetherness.

On Saturday morning, I got up early before everyone was awake and headed outside to enjoy the beautiful view of the ocean. After everyone had woken up, we had breakfast and studied the Bible together. We were all excited because later in the afternoon, we would go to the beach. One of the main purposes of the sisterhood retreat was to bring us all together, and the trip to the beach was an effective way of achieving this. From sunbathing together to playing games in the ocean, it was an experience to remember. In the evening, we had dinner together as a group, chatting about our day’s adventures. On Sunday morning, we had our last Bible study and headed back to campus.

Aubrey Mahar, a sophomore exercise science major and member of DELTA, shared, “I really love DELTA because I feel free to be myself and love having the amazing friendships DELTA has given me.” She enjoyed the bonding opportunities that the sisterhood retreat provided and getting to hear everyone’s thoughts on how to apply the fruits of the Spirit in our daily lives. “It all shows that despite our differences, we all are facing similar challenges in our faith journey,” she added.
