HSU to Host New Health Science Preview Day

Hardin-Simmons will hold its first Health Science Preview Day on Feb. 16. Students interested in health-related fields will have the opportunity to learn more about the health science programs at HSU. They can also stay an extra day to attend Winter Preview on Feb.17.

During the day, students will sit in on a science class, take a tour of campus, attend an academic fair and hear from a student and faculty panel. They will even have lunch with the Dr. Christopher McNair, Dean of the Holland School of Sciences and Mathematics.

Grant Greenwood, Director of Undergraduate Admissions and Recruiting explained the rationale behind this new preview event.

“We wanted to have a more targeted event for students who are interested in Health Science careers,” he said. “We thought that connecting with them specifically would be the best way to showcase our programs and all of HSU.”

The Holland School of Sciences and Mathematics offers undergraduate departments in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, Geology and Environmental Science, Mathematics, and Communication Sciences and Disorders. HSU also offers a master’s Physician Assistant Program and the first accredited doctoral program in the state of Texas in Physical Therapy.

“We have such a diversity in our offerings here,” said Greenwood. “From P.A. to P.T. to Pre-Med, our programs are renowned across the nation. We also have very high placement and success rates in our Pre-Dental and Pre-Health programs as well as in medical and graduate schools.”

100% of graduating students majoring in Biology, Chemistry or Biochemistry & Molecular Biology in the Holland School of Sciences and Mathematics who applied to medical, pharmacy, physical therapy and Physician’s Assistant programs were accepted for the 2014-2015 year.
