HSU prepares for commencement

Rep. Lambert will address the Spring graduates

Texas House Representative, Stan Lambert will give the commencement address at Saturday’s graduation ceremonies.

Lambert of House District 71, a Republican from Abilene, is serving in his first term in the Texas House of Representatives. He represents Taylor, Nolan, and Jones Counties and sits on the House Energy Resources Committee, Defense and Veterans’ Affairs Committee and the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission.

Lambert was born and raised in Abilene. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business from Abilene Christian University in 1975 and later his graduate certification in banking from Southern Methodist University. Upon graduation, Lambert began a long career in community banking.

In 1995, he returned home and became the Athletic Director at Abilene Christian University. Lambert has been involved in community banking for more than 35 years, and is currently serves as a Director with the Texas Heritage Bank.

Lambert has also served as the Mayor of Ennis, Texas and later as member of the Abilene School District Board of Trustees. He brings his unique experience in banking and public education to the Texas House of Representatives where he advocates for the principles of government living within its means and creating a better business environment through a balanced budget and low taxes that allows Texas to reinvest in education and create jobs.

He and his wife of 38 years, Debbie (a retired public school teacher and principal), are members of University Church of Christ. They have two sons, Wes and Jay, one daughter-in-law, Andrea, granddaughter Elizabeth Grace and Savannah Jane. *

Lambert will address both the 10 a.m. and the 2 p.m. graduates in Behrens Auditorium on Saturday.

Of the candidates for graduation, 187 students are earning bachelor’s degrees, 40 students are earning master’s degrees, and 6 students are earning doctorates.Distinguished by gold honor cords, 29 students will be graduating cum laude, 34 magna cum laude, and 26 summa cum laude. Eleven students will be recognized for earning a perfect grade-point average.

During the 10 a.m. ceremony, degrees will be conferred to students graduating from the Cynthia Ann Parker College of Liberal Arts, the Holland School of Sciences and Mathematics, Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing, and Logsdon School of Theology.

During the 2 p.m. commencement, degrees will be conferred to students in the Kelley College of Business, the College of Human Sciences and Educational Studies, and the College of Fine Arts.

Immediately following both commencement ceremonies, there will be an informal reception for graduates, guests, and faculty/staff at the Alumni Wall in Centennial Plaza, located just west of Behrens Auditorium. Graduates will find a replica of the plaque that will bear their names as new alumni of HSU.

The next graduation ceremony will be Friday, December 14, 2018. All future graduation ceremonies will be held on Fridays.
