From live athletic broadcasts to satellite church services, there is great need for visual delivery of live information. The Digital Media degree will provide hands-on experience in visual, audio, live event, and replay productions. Students in this program will gain experience with production, technology, software, and specialized equipment that will position them as shoe-in hires upon graduation.

HSU’s Digital Media degree prepares you for a career in the growing job market for online media. Media is no longer just broadcasting and print. Social media and streaming services have taken over the playing field. Everyone can take part in digital media, from freelancers  to small businesses that want to promote their services. Both for-profit and non-profit organizations use streaming and other digital visual mediums for online promotion. But not everyone can do it well. Students in the digital media major will learn in a hands-on environment how to create, capture, and share content on a variety of media platforms – and do it well.

As internet access has become practically ubiquitous, and access speeds have allowed real-time, high-definition video streaming directly to smart TVs and other connected devices, the media landscape has changed quickly and permanently. Data trends from the National Center for Education Statistics, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Career One-Stop, and other employment services websites all point to a healthy and growing job market for digital media graduates.

What You’ll Learn

Students will take classes from a cross-disciplinary selection of courses in Strategic Communication, Art, and Marketing. These courses will be mostly face-to-face and several are hands-on practical work.

Hands-On Experience with Digital Production

The Kelley College of Business at Hardin Simmons offers the joint B.B.A.-M.B.A. program so that students working toward the 150-hour Certified Public Accountant requirement can obtain a master’s degree with little additional coursework.

Excellent Faculty Experience

Student will learn from professors with top level degrees and real-world experience. You will learn from them both in the classroom, as well as shoulder-to-should while producing events like football game streaming, visual media at banquets, and digital TV commercials (CTV and OTT) for marketing HSU.

Outcomes

Film and Video Editors; Camera Operators: Employment in these job markets, prime targets for the proposed major, is projected to grow 22% through 2029, much faster than the average for all occupations. Texas employment rates in these occupations are expected to increase faster than the national average.

Media and Communication: Employment is projected to grow 4% through 2029, even with the average for all occupations, with some occupations we serve, like PR and Fundraising expected to increase 9 percent through 2029.
