Grow your knowledge of information security.

Has there ever been a more important time for cybersecurity? With the world continuously growing more dependent on computers and the internet, the ability to protect computer systems, devices, and networks from digital attacks is a valuable and much-needed skill set.

The Cybersecurity minor is intended to be suitable for landing entry-level work in the field. It is accessible to students in any major at HSU.

Three courses include topics directly relevant to the industry-recognized CompTIA certifications. Although students aren’t required to sit for the certification exams, if they choose to do so (and pass the exams) they will have a widely accepted certification to accompany their transcript. The courses and certifications are:

  • Computer Networking -> Networking+
  • Intro to Cybersecurity -> Security+
  • Penetration Testing -> PenTest+

In the current scheduling of courses a student can start the minor in any fall semester and will need three years to complete it in order to satisfy pre-requisites and limited scheduling.

Requirements

There are no special requirements (beyond admission to HSU) needed to start the minor. The courses require a proactive, resilient, hard-working, will-not-give-up attitude but beyond that they are accessible by students from any major.
