Campus was abuzz with prospective students this weekend as HSU hosted Physical Therapy Preview Day, Honors Program Preview, and Fall Preview. Preview events give students the opportunity to tour classes, meet with professors from their major, attend breakouts, and experience campus events like football games.

The PT Preview Day held on Friday was the second of four that HSU hosts during the year. Forty-eight students had the opportunity to gain knowledge of the PT profession, observe the HSU PT clinic offered to HSU employees and students, learn about HSU & Abilene, and learn the requirements to earn a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. they also met faculty and students, toured the state-of-the-art facilities, and interviewed for a seat in the DPT program.

“Preview Days are very important to our program,” said Janelle O’Connell, PT, Ph.D., DPT Program Director. “They give the current PT faculty, staff and students the opportunity to meet prospective candidates and for the candidate…to learn why HSU PT is unique in its curriculum offerings and servant-leadership opportunities.”

Twenty-three prospective Honors students attended their second preview event of the year on Saturday. They met current Honors faculty and students, took a campus tour, engaged with potential classmates, and completed their Honors interviews. This year, the Honors program introduced rolling enrollment, notifying students of their admittance to the program within a few weeks.

Almost 100 students attended Fall Preview on Saturday. Prospective students took a tour of campus, met with faculty in their academic area of interest, and learned how to get involved in student organizations. The day ended at Shelton Stadium with a pre-game tailgate and an HSU football game experience as the Cowboys beat McMurry 83-6.

Campus tour

“Visiting campus is the best way for a prospective student to experience HSU,” said Grant Greenwood, Director of Admission and Recruiting. “Students can research HSU online and through our marketing but there is no substitute for touring campus with a student tour guide, meeting with faculty in the academic field you are interested in, and cheering on the HSU Cowboys in person at Shelton Stadium. Fall Preview provides students from all over Texas and the nation an opportunity to picture themselves as a student at HSU.”

Upcoming preview days include the Health Science Preview on Feb. 15, Winter Preview on Feb. 16, and Transfer Preview on March 29. Registration for preview events and individual tours can be found here.
