HSU will soon offer a Master’s of Athletic Training (MAT) to build on their acclaimed undergraduate degree. Pending approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, the first class will begin in June 2019. Applications are open and available here.

“The Master’s of Athletic Training  Program represents an exciting evolution in the profession of athletic training and the Athletic Training program here at Hardin-Simmons,” said Dr. Christopher Greenleaf, Instructor of Athletic Training. “The MAT program will continue the long tradition of excellence established by our undergraduate Athletic Training program to provide a unique healthcare education environment to grow personally and professionally as an athletic trainer through an ‘Education Enlightened by Faith.'”

This 24-month program will prepare a student to become an entry-level athletic trainer and make them eligible to take the Board of Certification examination. The curriculum will include 50 credit hours of classroom and laboratory work and two semesters of clinical experience with local practices such as Abilene Sports Medicine & Orthopedics, Texas Sport & Spine, and EXOS Physical Therapy.

The MAT program offers a special benefit for current HSU students. The three year-two year option allows students to earn both their bachelor’s and MAT degrees in just five years.

“This option will save our students thousands of dollars in their pursuit of a graduate degree and allow them to stay a part of the HSU family,” Greenleaf said.

The AT program will also move into a new 4,400 square foot building in Spring 2019.
