It’s that time of year when the Hardin-Simmons family reconnects, right here on campus for Homecoming Weekend. From reunion dinners to SING! and the homecoming football game against Southwestern University, we are excited to celebrate our wonderful university together!

SABERS, HSU’s student activities board, has planned numerous events throughout the week to bring excitement and anticipation to campus. Their first event was the student vs. staff volleyball game on Monday (staff won). The rest of the week includes a movie night on Anderson Lawn, Wheel of Homecoming to give out prizes, and dinner on Thursday evening for SING! participants. Official homecoming festivities ramp up after Friday afternoon’s Game Day Gear Up, which equips students with their spirited student section must-haves!

Online registration for homecoming is now closed, but tickets can be purchased onsite Friday, Oct. 22, and Saturday, Oct. 23, during registration in Moody Center. Homecoming Headquarters will be open from 7:30 a.m. – 9 p.m. to answer any questions, help collect lost and found items, and offer any support you may require during the weekend.

Thursday

Official homecoming festivities begin with the Alumni Awards Banquet, where we celebrate the 2021 recipients of the Keeter Alumni Service Award, Distinguished Alumni Awards, and Outstanding Young Alumni Awards.

Friday

The Golden Reunion Luncheon will take place from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in Moody Center 108 where the classes of 1970 and 1971 are invited to enjoy lunch and be inducted into the Golden Lariat Society.

The Friday Night Festival will host food trucks, inflatables, yard games, and more from 5 – 9 p.m. on Sid Richardson Lawn, and All-School SING! will begin at 6 p.m. in Behrens Auditorium. The Athletics Hall of Fame Dinner will be held in Johnson Building from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. to celebrate the accomplishments of HSU athletes.

Two female students with popcorn at movie night.The Pep Rally and Fireworks will begin at 8:15 p.m. at Sid Richardson Lawn. Join the HSU Cheerleaders, Cowboy Band, Spurs, and Hoss as they gather the crowd before fireworks begin and Homecoming Court is presented. This will be followed by the Late-Night Breakfast at 9 p.m. where the HSU Police will serve purple pancakes at the Bridges Courtyard.

Saturday

A ROTC/Military Veterans Informal Breakfast will be hosted from 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. in Moody Cafeteria, followed by receptions hosted by The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders and the Holland School of Sciences and Mathematics from 8:30 – 9:30am for faculty, alumni, and current students to enjoy refreshments and fellowship.

From 9 – 10 a.m. parents of current HSU students are invited to enjoy breakfast in Moody 108 for Parents-Only Breakfast. Members of all LinkedIn Leadership Advisory Boards are invited to attend a LinkedIn Leadership Advisory Boards Meeting in the President’s Office Suite, and a Cowboy Band Foundation Meeting will take place in the Cowboy Band Hall from 9 – 10 a.m. as well.

Student Organization Gatherings will take place from 9 – 11 a.m. in Johnson Building. Delta and Sigma Alpha gatherings as well as the Tau Alpha Phi 60th Reunion will take place from 9 – 10:30 a.m. Kappa Phi Omega, Theta Alpha Zeta, Alpha Iota Omega, and Phi Phi Phi will meet from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.

The Tennis Mixer and Celebration will take place at the Streich Tennis Center from 9:15 – 11:45 a.m. and the Prospective Student Preview will begin in the Dyess Welcome Center at 9:30 a.m. A Historical Marker Ceremony will also take place at 9:30 a.m. in front of Moody Center with President Bruntmyer and HSU Round Table Members.

From 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. kids are invited to the HSU Kids Club for crafts, face painting, yard games, White Horse rides, and performances from the HSU Spurs, Cheerleaders, and Hoss on Sid Richardson Lawn. Additionally, the Kids Zone will be open in Fletcher Fitness Center for children ages 2 and up to run play on our indoor soccer field throughout the day.

The Ex-Cowgirls Coffee meeting will take place from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and the JG and Billie Martin Apartment Dedication will begin at 10:00 a.m.

The Tommy Hall Short Game Closest to Hole Contest will be held at the short game center from 10 a.m. – 12:30 a.m. to help raise money for The West Texas Rehabilitation Center. The cost is $20 for 5 shots and there are prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

The HSU Hispanic Assembly will hold a gathering called “Chismeando” de HSU in Moody Center 227 from 10:15 – 11:15 a.m. to fellowship with Hispanic alumni and friends and recognize scholarship recipients.

Football Pre-Game Festivities will begin at 12:30 p.m. at Shelton Stadium. Alumni Check-In will begin 30 minutes prior to kick-off – halftime. Come get your free HSU Alumni swag and enter your name in the drawing for an HSU gift basket!

The HSU Cowboys vs. Southwestern Game will begin at 1 p.m. at Shelton Stadium. During halftime we will crown Homecoming King and Queen and recognize Coach Jimmie Keeling with the unveiling of a bronze statue in his likeness.

The Art Department will be hosting an Art Department Alumni and Friends Reception from 5 – 7 p.m. in Frost Center. Reunion Dinners will be hosted Saturday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. for the Golden Lariat Society, Classes of 1980 and 1981, and Hispanic Alumni. Their locations will be posted at Registration and Homecoming Headquarters.

Saturday’s final event All-School SING will take place in Behrens Auditorium at 8 p.m.

Sunday

To wrap up Homecoming Weekend, the HSU Family Worship Service will be in Logsdon Chapel from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. to allow for a time of refreshment, reflection, music, and inspiration presented by members of the HSU Family.

Lunch Options

If you’d like to skip the long restaurant lines and keep your parking spot on Saturday, lunch options include the HSU Cafeteria (Moody Cafeteria) and the HSU Barbeque Tailgate, which will take place in the Bridges Courtyard in front of Richardson Library. Both options will be available from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and will charge $10 for adults and $15 for kids ages 4-10.
