Dr. John Davis is a professor of management in the Kelley College of Business and Professional Studies at Hardin-Simmons University. He arrived at HSU in 2008 and has been a staple on campus since. Beginning this semester, he will serve as Faculty President for the university.

Dr. John Davis

As Faculty President, this will be his fourth non-consecutive year, already serving from 2016 to 2018. The role is an elected position voted upon by the faculty of HSU.

John Davis grew up in Paris, Texas, and graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1975. After that, he earned his MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1982 and his Ph.D. from Texas Tech University in 2005. He is married with adult children, teaches Sunday School at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in Abilene, and is a licensed professional engineer in Texas. When not actively engaged as the Faculty President, he is in the classroom, teaching for the College of Business.

As the Faculty President, Dr. Davis organizes and leads monthly meetings between faculty members alongside the Faculty Council, another group of elected faculty members. During these gatherings, faculty discuss topics relevant to the faculty of Hardin-Simmons. These include matters the faculty needs to address and solve, including academic opportunities, degree programs, reports, and other responsibilities. He also meets with different leadership groups, such as the Board of Trustees and the Student Council, to stay up-to-date on news throughout and beyond the campus.

Dr. Davis enjoys having the opportunity to go above and beyond for others. As Faculty President, he aims to emphasize HSU’s Christian community across the campus and throughout HSU’s many networks. The possibilities are endless when the HSU family comes together, unified by Christian faith and values.
