Joy filled Hardin-Simmons University as the campus celebrated Gilbert’s birthday on Friday, April 21, 2023. Gilbert is a goose and the current unofficial mascot of HSU. This event was organized by HSU Sabers.

The celebration was filled with different fun activities, including connect-four, corn hole, dunk tanks, and more. Students also participated in a community mural of Gilbert.

Hannah Bays, a junior at HSU shared, “The dunk tank is easily my favorite part of Gilbert’s birthday. Seeing my Resident Director, Angelica Ramirez, fall into the water was delightful.”

Food trucks provided students with delicious food, including tacos, burgers, and shaved ice. The first 150 students received free meal tickets.

Gilbert found his way into the heart of HSU 11 years ago, and we will continue to celebrate him in the coming years.

Be on the lookout for more events HSU Sabers have planned for this semester.
