Student Art Competition Award Winners

The Hardin-Simmons University Art Department announced the winners at the reception of its annual HSU Student Art Competition on Thursday evening, April 5, consisting this year of artworks juried by Trudy Six, Director of Galleries of the Center For Contemporary Arts. The exhibition continues through April 19. Regular gallery hours are 9:00 – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday; or by appointment (call 325-671-2223).

Best of Show was awarded to Senior painting and drawing major, Jinghan Ma, for her watercolor triptych: The Scenery of Memory.

First Place in 2-D went to Jaree Bell, junior painting and drawing major, for her acrylic painting, Wait, For There Is Something Better. Second Place 2-D went to Jose Muniz, sophomore graphic design major, for his drawing, Abuela, and Jinghan Ma also won Third Place for her painting, Fairyland.

First Place 3-D went to Micah Davis, junior sculpture major, for his laminated wood furniture piece, Sleek Oak Recliner. Braeden Kuppin, senior painting and drawing major, won Second Place 3-D for her mixed media sculpure, Keikoa, and Third Place 3-D went to sophomore graphic design major, Hallie Strommer, for her sculpture, No. 1.

First Place Photography was awarded to Braedon Kuppin, for her photograph, Caged Life. Second Place Photography went to Bryan Vause, senior sculpture/photography major, for his photograph, Volterra 2, and Buff Bustillos, senior graphic design major, won Third Place for his digital photograph, Right Side of the Tracks.

First Place Graphic Design was awarded to senior graphic design major, Khalil Myers, for his digital illustration, Mystery In the Clouds. Second Place Graphic Design went to Frankie Scarbrough, junior graphic design major, for digital illustration, Yas Queen, and Chris Cockerell, senior graphic design major, won Third Place for his digital poster, Piller.
