Over 700 members of the Hardin-Simmons family gathered at
Globe Life Park in Arlington for HSU Night at the Rangers on June 7. Current
and future students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends fellowshipped together
as the Rangers took on the Houston Astros. While the Rangers lost 5-2,
Hardin-Simmons won a night full of friends, food, and fun.
Board of Trustees Chairman Dr. George Newman threw the first
pitch of the game. Newman served HSU as Professor of Biology and the school’s
tennis coach from 1974 to 1979. He was selected
as a member of the Hardin-Simmons Board of Trustees in 1995. He has also served
as County Judge for Taylor County and operated the 18,000-acre Bullhead Ranch. George and his wife Carolyn are
long-time supporters of HSU. They have created multiple scholarships and endowments,
including the HSU Grassland Initiative.
HSU Alumni is already busy planning the next HSU night at
the ballpark. In 2019 they are hoping to add an Astros night for HSU’s Houston fans.
