2018 Student Art Competition

April 2, 2018 Linda Fawcett, HSU Professor of Art

The Hardin-Simmons University Art Department announces its annual HSU Student Art Competition that opens on April 2 and runs through April 19, consisting this year of artworks juried by Trudy Six, Director of Galleries of the Center For Contemporary Arts. There will be an awards reception on Thursday evening, April 5, 5:00-6:30 p.m. that will also be eligible for chapel credit for those HSU students who stay at least one hour. The general public is invited. Regular gallery hours are 9:00 – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday; or by appointment (call 325-671-2223).

This annual Spring event is for students taking art classes at HSU, open to art majors and minors as well as non-art majors taking an art class. It is juried every year by a prominent outside art professional, meaning that being included in the show is an award in itself, and being further distinguished as a categorical award winner is an even higher honor. The award categories are 2-D (painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media), 3-D (sculpture and ceramics), Photography, Graphic Design, and Freshman (products made in Drawing I and II, and 2D and 3D Design). There is also a Best of Show.
