POSITION:  Summer – Learn to Swim Camp

DEPARTMENT:  School of Kinesiology, Health & Recreation

SUPERVISOR TITLE:  DH: Kinesiology, Health, and Recreation; Assistant Professor

FLSA STATUS:  Non-Exempt

LOCATION:  Abilene

TARGET HIRE DATE:  As Soon As Possible (Early May)

SUMMARY/SCOPE:

Deck Supervisor: The Deck Supervisor manages assigned shifts — including supervision of on-deck employees, lifeguards, swim coaches and Swim Instructors. Deck supervisor will maintain the pool environment and interact with students and parents. He or she performs as an expert on all levels of the HSU Learn to Swim Program curriculum and demonstrates thorough knowledge of HSU Learn to Swim Program management policies and practices.

Swim Instructor: Instruct kids or adults about proper techniques and water safety while using the proven HSU Learn to Swim Program curriculum to produce those extraordinary results.

Lifeguard: Ensure the safety of swimmers and visitors to the HSU aquatic facility.  The lifeguard will explain the safety rules to patrons, warn them of unsafe situations, and enforce policies on safety and proper attire.  He or she will maintain orderliness by inspecting pool areas and restrooms.  He or she will also monitor pool equipment and record pool temperature.

POSITION: Summer Dreamcatchers – Reading Camp

DEPARTMENT: Reading

SUPERVISOR TITLE: Associate Dean of the Irvin School of Education; Professor of Education

FLSA STATUS:  Non-Exempt

LOCATION:  Abilene

TARGET HIRE DATE:  As Soon As Possible (Early June)

SUMMARY/SCOPE:

To mentor, facilitate or assist in content literacy, art, music, technology, or theater activities with at-risk elementary and middle school students for two-week summer camp during the end of June. 

Camp worker may either gain chapel credit for volunteering in the camp OR earn $10 an hour for various camp responsibilities.

POSITION: Summer – Health Sciences Summer Enrichment Program – Intern

SUMMARY/SCOPE:

Interns are peer mentors for HSSEP at HSU. They are responsible for tutoring, leading planned activities, and providing laboratory support for faculty during the program. Peer mentors are required to attend all events, tours, and speaking events. They assist dorm staff with monitoring students. Peer mentors will receive valuable experience as leaders and will continue to serve as mentors to students when they enroll as HSU students.
