Dr. Adachukwu (Ada) Chinelo Uzondu joined the HSU faculty as an Assistant Professor of Psychology and Counseling in 2023. Serving God and humanity is her greatest passion. She views her teaching as God’s calling to make disciples. She enjoys bike rides, soccer, cooking, and baking.

Prior to joining the faculty, she served as a licensed professional counselor-associate at Texas A&M University Counseling Center and BeneVie Counseling and Consulting PLLC. She is the director and founder of the Hope and Peace Ministry. She is a certified trauma professional. She is a member of 14 counseling organizations and serves as a leader in 6 of the organizations. This includes her role as the 2023-2024 President of the Texas College Counseling Association, Ah Hoc Reviewer of the Association of Counselor Education & Supervision, and Past President of Theta Alpha Mu chapter of Chi Sigma Iota, a counseling honor society. She has also served as Co-Admission Coordinator, Program Reviewer, Program Assistant, Teaching Assistant, and Assistant Director in different areas of her career.

Her research passion includes five main areas: (a) trauma; (b) health and wellness; (c) supervision; (d) intersectionality and multicultural competency; and (e) mental health disorders among students and minority groups. Her dissertation was on the effectiveness of CBT-based positive self-affirmation on childhood sexual abuse survivors’ self-esteem and hope.

Her scholarly productivity and commitment include 22 presentations at local, state, and national conferences. She is devoted to excellence in education informed by Christian values and beliefs. She is passionate about empowering students to identify and fulfill their dreams by instilling knowledge, nurturing confidence, and engaging minds and spirits. She takes pride in her students and views the diversity they bring to her classroom as a resource, benefit, and strength.
