Malcolm J. Kass, Ph.D., joins HSU as the Associate Professor of Economics. An award-winning teacher and accomplished scholar, Kass is dedicated to helping students learn economics through hands-on analysis, real-world data, and active classroom engagement.
Kass joins HSU with more than a decade of collegiate teaching experience and a strong record of academic scholarship. His research focuses on labor markets, institutions, and regional economics, with publications appearing in respected journals including Public Choice, Social Choice and Welfare, and the Journal of Economic Psychology. He has also mentored numerous undergraduate research projects, helping students present original work at regional and national conferences.
Before entering higher education, Kass spent seven years with 3M as a chemical engineer and manufacturing manager, leading process improvements and operational initiatives for major product lines. His interdisciplinary background provides students with valuable connections between economic theory, business decision-making, and real-world applications.
