Dr. John Hill, professor of economics, was employed by Hardin-Simmons University in 1998. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in economics from Baylor University. He earned a Master of Arts degree in economics from Texas Christian University and completed his graduate studies at the University of Tennessee with a Ph.D. in economics.

Prior to arriving at Hardin-Simmons University, he was an assistant professor of economics for two years at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and a visiting professor of economics at the University of Tennessee.

Dr. Hill is a real estate investor and owns multifamily and commercial real estate in Abilene.  He is a real estate broker and co-owner of Barnett & Hill Real Estate. His brokerage often employs students from Hardin-Simmons and provides them real-world exposure to real estate.

Outside of his work life, Hill serves as a trustee at the University of the South at Sewanee, a volunteer at Breakfast on Beech Street, and is an usher at the Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal.
