Women of HSU perform monologues from “Love, Loss, and What I Wore”

(ABILENE, Texas)–On Wednesday, March 20 a cutting of the play “Love, Loss, and What I Wore” was performed in the Johnson Building as part of the continuing celebrations of National Women’s History Month.
The off-Broadway hit was written by Nora and Delia Ephron and was based on a book of the same title by Ilene Beckerman. Along with the performance brown bag lunches, coffee, tea, and water were provided.
The short half hour performance was not expected to have the turn-out it did. Dr. Victoria Spangler, Associate Professor of Theatre, organized and participated in the presentation. “It was standing room only…people were sitting on the floor, every chair was filled, chairs were brought in…some people literally stood. We were overwhelmed,” said Spangler.
Ten women, faculty, staff, and a student, each performed a different monologue and a few times they all performed together as an ensemble. Each monologue revolved around a certain piece of clothing and the powerful, sometimes funny, story behind it.
“[Love, Loss, and What I Wore] is organized as a series of monologues and uses a rotating cast. The subject matter of the monologues includes women’s relationships and wardrobes and at times the interaction of the two, using the female wardrobe as a time capsule of a woman’s life,” said Spangler
Since it was such a success, Spangler says they plan to do it again next year.
