The Month in Photos: May 2025

During May, Cowboys and Cowgirls prepared for final exams, while seniors enjoyed one last week before walking the stage. Hardin-Simmons University wrapped up the spring semester with several events that brought students, faculty, and staff together one final time before the summer break. HSU hosted a pancake study break, a faculty and staff luncheon, a graduate celebration, and the May commencement ceremonies to close out the academic year.
Pancake Study Break
HSU’s Student Activities Board (SABERS) partnered with faculty and staff to host a pancake study break, giving students a chance to relax amid finals week. A hot breakfast was served alongside a raffle drawing. Six lucky students won prizes ranging from new JBL headphones to an Apple TV system.
Faculty Staff Luncheon
The Faculty and Staff Luncheon honored the hard work and dedication of HSU employees who help foster the university’s supportive environment. Staff members received pendants to commemorate their years of service. The HSU Alumni Choir performed, and President Eric Bruntmyer presented the Employee of the Year awards.
Graduate Celebration
The HSU Alumni Association hosted a celebration for spring graduates, giving seniors a chance to mark their final week in style. The Class of 2025 plaque was unveiled, and graduates posed with their names, now permanently displayed on the Alumni Wall. Seniors also received alumni T-shirts, snacks, and a final opportunity to visit with the Six White Horses.
May Commencement Ceremonies
The Class of 2025 walked the stage on May 9 at the Abilene Convention Center, surrounded by professors, mentors, and loved ones. Two ceremonies were held, at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., where President Bruntmyer conferred degrees. The Hemphill Graduate Honor Award, Julius Nelson Olsen Medal, and Minnie L. Anderson Medal were awarded to Julie Atlason, Anne Gaudard Correa Rangel, and Mary Jo Parker, respectively, for their academic excellence.
