Students to Host Apologetics Conference

October 25, 2017 Grace Mitchell, Staff Writer

A team of HSU students is challenging their peers to ask tough questions and seek understanding at the Inquire Apologetics Conference on Nov. 7.

The first session will be held in chapel and the afternoon sessions will be in Moody 108. The speakers will cover topics including intolerance, reliability of scripture, suffering, God’s will, and sexuality. Each session will offer chapel credit.

Molly Warren, a senior who helped organize the conference, said she and her friends came up with the idea because they wanted to inspire students to inquire about their faith.

“We want them to really ask questions about why they believe what they believe,” she said. “We want them to know that God is not scared of our tough questions. We might not be able to understand everything, but we can challenge ourselves to seek more understanding.”

Warren and her team brought in a student panel to vote on topics that they wanted to be explored. They believe that addressing these topics will encourage spiritual maturity.

“Conversations about things that are difficult to understand are essential to growth,” Warren said. “Jesus says to love the Lord your God with all your heart, and all your soul, and all your mind. Faith seeking understanding inspires an awe of God and brings us on a wild adventure of learning who he is.”

Warren hopes that the student will attend the conference with heart of curiosity.

“We hope that the conference will spur students on to wholeheartedly develop their relationship with the Lord,” she said.
