Spring Graduation Spotlight: Kailey Valadez

May 12, 2023 Charis Ochu

Kailey Love Valadez, an exercise science major from Georgetown, Texas, is graduating today. “I felt a sense of belonging, and with lots of prayers, I felt that I was exactly where God called me to be,” she shared on her decision to attend HSU.

Kailey was very involved on campus throughout her four years at HSU. She was a member of Sigma Alpha, the Athletics Engagement Committee, and the Student Government Association (SGA). She has worked at Cypress Street Station and interned at the Abilene Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.

Kailey loves sitting outside the library to study or relax. She is very thankful for the community HSU created for her and all the amazing people she has met.

She enjoys listening to music or taking spin classes at a local studio in her free time.

Kailey is very grateful to her mentor, Dr. Spindler, for positively impacting her time here at HSU. “She has guided me in so many ways and has always been someone I can lean on. She has shown so much grace and care for me and my family.”

Her favorite verse is Psalms 23. “It reminds me that God has everything figured out and that there is no need to be afraid of the future because he is with me,” she explained.

Her advice to HSU students is “get to know your professors, your advisor, and any other member of staff you see every week. These people are so wise, kind, and generous with their time, and they care about you so much!”

Congratulations Kailey!
