Sign up for the Turkey Day 5K!

November 8, 2021 Sarah Harbison

Dust off your running shoes and mark your calendar for November 22 to take part in the annual Turkey Day 5K. Turkey Day 5K is a twelve-year tradition of Hardin-Simmons University that combines giving back and giving thanks.

While most do not associate running with celebrating Thanksgiving, Turkey Day 5K is a way to express your gratitude. Chantelle Lancaster, Director of the Flecther Fitness Center, shared, “The event allows and encourages family and friends to gather around the holidays and do something fun.” The event also allows you to express thanks for your health amid a calorie-dense holiday.

Proceeds from the race will go to the Special Olympics Texas. The funds will be used to supplement the organization’s events, recreational and interpersonal wellbeing for Special Olympic members, and more.

Registration is only $12. Early registration goes through Nov. 12 and includes a medal, tote bag, and race-day shirt. All registrations after Nov. 12 only include participation in the race.

Participants can also enter a drawing for a Best Buy flat-screen TV, clothing apparel from Abilene Axe Throwing, a basket from Gourmet Abilene, and more! Each raffle ticket costs $10, and again, all proceeds go to the Special Olympics,
