It’s Almost Time! Fall Celebrations are Coming!

August 24, 2020 Nikki Slater

Fall is almost here, and it is normally the time when we get to experience the time-honored tradition of Homecoming with our HSU family.

As Hardin-Simmons University embarks on a new academic year amidst the ongoing pandemic, our team has been actively working explore opportunities for our on-campus celebrations while keeping our campus community safe.

Homecoming

Because the American Southwest Conference has moved our Fall sports season to Spring, we will be moving our annual Homecoming Celebration to the Spring semester, Feb. 12-14, 2021.  This change coincides with the start of the ASC competition season for HSU and when we plan to resume large campus-wide celebrations that we all look forward to each year.

In the meantime, this Fall, we will be introducing a couple of new campus events.

Cowboy Classic

Friday and Saturday, Sept. 25 and 26, the new “Cowboy Classic” will be a weekend-long event to celebrate the amazing hard work all our Cowboys and Cowgirls have been up to so far.  The festivities will kick off Friday morning at 8 a.m. with a Men’s Tennis Match followed by Men’s Soccer Game 1 at 5 p.m. and a 6 p.m. Development Squad Tailgate and Football Scrimmage.  Then at 7:30 p.m., the Women’s Soccer Game and popsicles and we will wrap the evening up with Game 2 of Men’s Soccer at 9 p.m.

The celebration continues Saturday, Sept. 26 starting at 8 a.m. with Match 2 of Men’s Tennis and a 9 a.m. Volleyball Match.  Our Varsity Tailgate and Football Scrimmage, which kicks off at 1 p.m., features Band, Cheer and the Spurs followed by the Men’s final Soccer Game and ice cream at 7 p.m.

Mabee Madness

In October, we will host “Mabee Madness” as HSU gets ready to play some basketball on Saturday, Oct. 24.  Game Times will be announced. Tailgating, games, and prizes will be a part of this free event for the community.

We are excited to celebrate these Fall events with our students as we adopt some new traditions during this time of transition.
