International Week, 2022

March 4, 2022 Jaidyn Kamplain

Throughout International Week at Hardin-Simmons University, the International Student Fellowship (ISF) and Global Engagement Office hosted a variety of events that allowed students and staff to celebrate the diversity on our campus.

Kicking the week off with International Chapel, ISF members Zoey Abigail and Kayurs Sah spoke on the intent of International Week at HSU and prayed over the week, thanking God for the opportunity to learn from the variety of cultures represented at HSU.

Flags were waved during chapel.

International students waved flags as their country names were called and the crowd cheered. As they approached the stage to place their flags, many assumed spots in the band and helped lead a lively worship service. The variety of flags on the stage served as a beautiful reminder of the multitude of countries that are represented within HSU’s student body.

Evening events were hosted throughout the rest of the week, including one on Wednesday night called World of Wonder. International students showcased talents such as dancing, singing, and playing instruments, and discussed a variety of topics such as culture shock and topics of importance in their home country. International students had the opportunity to freely share traditions that are close to their hearts as domestic students learned about the beauty of their cultures.

On Thursday evening, international students cooked dishes from their home countries for Taste of the World. A variety of drinks and dishes were served as students mingled and learned about the unique foods and traditions that can be found within each culture.

The campus enjoyed the international buffet hosted by the cafeteria.

Another opportunity for students to appreciate food from around the world was at the International Buffet hosted by the HSU Caf on Wednesday. Students filled their plates with dishes from cultures around the globe and celebrated by eating together.

If you haven’t had the chance to participate in celebrating International Week with us yet, you are invited to join us for the final events on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon. ISF will host a Night of Worship in Logston Chapel at 7:00 pm for all to celebrate the love of God in a variety of languages. Finally, to wrap up International Week, a soccer tournament will be held on Saturday, March 5 in the Fitness Center at 3:00 pm.

Thank you, ISF and Global Engagement for using this week as an opportunity to express your cultures and celebrate with the HSU family!
