HSU Theater Department Set to Perform “The Theory of Relativity”

This week, the Hardin-Simmons University Theatre Department invites the campus to watch them perform The Theory of Relativity, a musical that emphasizes people’s lives and how they connect with those around them. This unique song cycle uses one narrative to tell a collection of individual stories, showing how life intersects in unexpected and meaningful ways.

“The Theory of Relativity” is authentic as it portrays real-life experiences, not just fantasy.

“This musical is unique not only because it is a song cycle, but also because it shows real-life experiences, not made-up, unrealistic stories,” Dayna Steyn, promotions director for the theatre department, explained. “Someone on the street could be changed because of a simple interaction.”

Originally, this show was not part of the season’s lineup. However, while attending the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, in August 2024, the students had the opportunity to see The Theory of Relativity, and it was love at first sight.

“My favorite part of this show is getting to see all our amazing projections on the stage during each song, and their differences remind me of how different we are as humans, too,” Dayna shared. She hopes the audience is reminded of how connected, whether superficially or deeply, we all are in life.

The show will share the message that we exist to connect and encourage the audience to reach out and form relationships with those around them.

“Every person you meet may leave a mark on your life, regardless of how long you’ve known them,” Dayna emphasized.

Performances will be held from 7:30 p.m. on April 10-12 and at 2:00 p.m. on April 13 in the Van Ellis Theatre. HSU faculty, staff, and students can enjoy this musical production for the low price of $5 per ticket.

Don’t miss this beautiful performance brought to you by the HSU Theatre Department!
