Earlier this spring, Hardin-Simmons student Jeremy Chabarria participated in the College Band Directors National Association’s (CBDNA) Southwestern Division Conference Intercollegiate Honor Band. To participate in the band, Jeremy was nominated and then participated in an audition in December. He auditioned as a French horn player and was accepted as the 4th chair out of 8 French horns who auditioned.

Jeremy is a sophomore at HSU, though his history with the university is storied. He first attended HSU after high school but then took an opportunity to join the United States Navy Band after auditioning and being accepted. He returned to HSU recently to continue his college career and prepare for where his love for music education will take him.

The opportunity to participate in the CBDNA Collegiate Honor Band would have never happened without his nomination. “I wouldn’t be there if it weren’t for Jay Lester,” he said when asked if he had anyone he wanted to thank. “The excellence of the staff sets apart our music department from others. They go above and beyond.” Jeremy said he would have never become so interested in music if it hadn’t been for HSU to cultivate that desire within him.

The HSU Music Department shapes and guides students to success at every level. From inspiring a love of music to teaching the fundamentals of music education, HSU prepares students like Jeremy to approach the musical field and succeed in it.
