HSU Speech-Language Pathology Program Earns Full Accreditation

Hardin-Simmons University’s Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program has received full accreditation from the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA), marking a significant milestone for the university and its commitment to preparing the next generation of speech-language pathologists.

The achievement reflects years of dedication from faculty, students, clinical partners, university leadership, and community stakeholders who have worked together to build a program focused on academic excellence, clinical competence, and compassionate service.

“Accreditation represents so much more than simply earning a designation for our program,” said Lorenzo Martinez, assistant professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders. “It represents the collective effort of our faculty, students, clinical partners, and university and affirms our commitment to preparing highly competent speech-language pathologists who are ready to serve their communities. We are proud of this milestone and excited for what it means for the future of our students and our program.”

CAA accreditation signifies that a program has met rigorous national standards for quality in curriculum, faculty qualifications, clinical education, student outcomes, and continuous improvement. The recognition provides assurance that graduates are receiving the education and clinical preparation needed to serve individuals with communication and swallowing disorders across a variety of healthcare and educational settings.

For HSU, the accreditation highlights the university’s ongoing investment in healthcare education and its focus on equipping students to make meaningful impacts in their communities.

“We are excited to achieve accreditation of our program as reaching this milestone allows us to move to the next level,” said Christine Sanchez, assistant professor of Speech-Language Pathology and program director. “I am proud of our faculty and students who succeeded in meeting all the standards that were set forth. I am also grateful for the unfailing support of the administration, the faculty from other departments who contribute to our program, the community speech-language pathologists who supervise our students, and the clients who provide opportunities for our students to learn.”

Sanchez noted that the accomplishment reflects a broad network of support both on and off campus. She added that the department is looking ahead to future opportunities for growth, including expanded clinical services and enhanced support for student clinicians as the program continues to develop.

The accreditation represents a major step forward for the program and reinforces HSU’s commitment to providing high-quality, faith-centered education that prepares graduates for successful professional careers and lives of service.
