HSU Senior Recitals Capstone Four Years of Music

As the spring semester ends at Hardin-Simmons University, senior recitals are scheduled to showcase the excellence of senior music students. Over the past few weeks, seniors focusing on choir, band, orchestra, and composition have scheduled, planned, and performed a recital utilizing everything they learned at HSU.

Zacharia Kitchell, one of the graduating seniors, organized a composition recital where he performed and utilized other students. His recital consisted of seven pieces, all composed and organized by him. The recital, in his own words, “has prepared me for the complexity of writing music for performers and adjusting to allow for smoother rehearsals.” He recommended that future seniors begin “planning and rehearsing as early as possible.”

Another graduating senior, Ju Hyun Baek, focused on a percussion recital where he played six pieces on various percussion instruments and the piano. “Since I am a music performance major, prepping this senior recital made me a better performer,” he said when asked how the performance helped develop his mastery of music.

These two seniors are only a few of the many who have put on senior recitals. Though every recital is different, each one is perfectly suited to display the mastery of music students develop in the music programs offered here at HSU.
