March 8 marks the annual celebration of International Women’s Day, after women gained suffrage in Soviet Russia on March 8, 1917. In 1975, the United Nations adopted the holiday, which is now celebrated in countries across the world.

On Friday, The women of HSU’s Greek organizations celebrated International Women’s Day with a party on Anderson Lawn, complete with mini cupcakes from Sweet Escape Desserts, based in Tye, Texas. Lauren Moser of Alpha Iota Omega and Malia Williams of Delta, along with Jen Harmel of A People Party Productions, an Abilene based company that provides digital marketing and event coordination services, organized the event to celebrate the awesome women of HSU and to sell tee-shirts as a fundraiser for the Noah Project.

The Noah Project empowers victims of “family violence, domestic violence, dating violence, and both stranger and non-stranger sexual assault” by offering shelter and support. They collect clothing, hygiene items, food, and linens. To get involved with the Noah Project, call 800-444-3551 or visit noahproject.org.
