HSU Alumna Competes in the 2021 CrossFit Games

July 27, 2021 Jaidyn Kamplain

When HSU alumna, Arielle (Armstrong) Loewen, finished high school in 2012, she took a job cleaning the gym in order to pay for her CrossFit membership. Little did she know that this small step would lead her to where she is now: competing at the CrossFit Games this week, July 27 – August 1, in Madison, Wis.

“I’m so thankful that the gym put aside their pride and money to let me work there. They taught me everything I know, and I’ve been doing CrossFit ever since,” shared Arielle. Arielle has also expressed her gratitude towards her amazing support system at Renewed Strength CrossFit.

Arielle graduated from HSU in 2016 with her undergraduate degree and in 2018 with her masters. She then worked in the business office for almost two years, working part-time from home so that she could stay home with her daughter.

As one of 40 women who qualified for the games this year, Arielle has trained hard for many hours while also being a full-time mom. Being a mom has impacted her CrossFit journey tremendously. While many CrossFit competitors train as their full-time jobs, Arielle has put her daughter first while getting her training in. Thankfully, Arielle knows that at the end of the day she returns home to a husband and daughter who love her.

“This competition is the first time that I’ve truly ‘let go and let God’,” said Arielle. “I’m not sure what will happen at the games, but I’ve been praying to just hand it over to God. And, hopefully I can use my platform to bring people closer to the Lord.”

Arielle will compete this week alongside HSU alumni, Roy Gamboa. Arielle and Roy are two of only 40 men and 40 women out of 245,914 people who entered to qualify for the 2021 CrossFit Games.
