Hardin-Simmons University’s Enrollment 2026-2027

Hardin-Simmons University (HSU) continues to build on its momentum with strong enrollment indicators for the 2026-2027 academic year, highlighted by growth in undergraduate enrollment, record-setting residence hall occupancy, and continued expansion in high-demand academic programs.

This fall, undergraduate enrollment increased to 1,264 students, up from 1,252 last year. HSU also welcomed an academically strong incoming class, with average SAT scores rising and a greater percentage of first-time freshmen ranking in the top 10% of their graduating classes. Enrollment of students from the Big Country region also increased, reinforcing the university’s commitment to serving West Texas and strengthening connections with local communities.

Student life continues to thrive on campus. Residence hall occupancy reached a historic high, with 982 students living on campus, a 9% increase over last year and the highest housing occupancy in university history. Since Fall 2022, residential occupancy has increased by 27%, marking four consecutive years of growth in the number of students choosing to live on campus. Reflecting the continued growth in campus engagement, meal plan participation also increased by 4%.

HSU’s academic programs continue to attract students pursuing careers in growing and essential fields. Health Professions enrollment increased by 2% and now represents approximately 40% of the university’s student population. The university’s Nursing program, launched to address critical workforce needs across Texas and beyond, welcomed 58 new students in Fall 2026. Total Nursing enrollment grew from 111 students in Fall 2025 to 150 students this year.

Interest in health-related disciplines continues to accelerate among incoming students. The percentage of first-time freshmen entering Health Professions programs increased significantly, rising from 24.5% to 30.9% of the cohort. HSU also experienced substantial growth among transfers and other incoming students pursuing business degrees, with enrollment in Business programs increasing from 21.6% to 31.2% of that population.

Student success remains a central focus of the university’s mission. HSU’s retention rate climbed to 69.13%, continuing a positive multi-year trend from 64.87% two years ago and 67.10% last year. The sustained improvement reflects the dedication of faculty and staff in supporting students throughout their educational journey and helping them persist towards graduation.

The university also remains committed to making a Christ-centered education accessible and affordable. This year, HSU awarded approximately $27 million in scholarships to undergraduate students, continuing its investment in student success and opportunity.
