Hardin-Simmons University Named One of the Best Colleges in the Southwest by The Princeton Review

September 4, 2025

Hardin-Simmons University (HSU) has once again been recognized among the nation’s top academic institutions, earning a spot on The Princeton Review’s list of “Best Colleges: Region by Region” for 2026.

HSU was named one of only 41 colleges in the Southwest — spanning Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas — to earn this distinction. In total, The Princeton Review recognized 631 colleges across seven zones (Northeast, South, Southwest, Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, West, and International), representing about 26 percent of America’s four-year institutions.

“This recognition by The Princeton Review is a reflection of the transformative experience students receive at Hardin-Simmons,” said Hardin-Simmons President Eric Bruntmyer. “We are committed to challenging and inspiring students through rigorous academics while preparing them with the real-world experience needed to succeed. More importantly, we are shaping graduates who live out their faith and lead with purpose. We are proud to provide an environment where students are known, supported, and fully equipped to step boldly into their callings.”

The Princeton Review’s “2026 Best Colleges: Region by Region” is shaped by student feedback — spotlighting schools where undergraduates themselves report strong academics, supportive communities, and meaningful campus experiences.

HSU’s narrative includes student comments describing the university as a place where undergraduates are “plugged into at least one activity,” “polite,” “hardworking,” “athletic,” “really friendly,” and “focused on their priorities.” Many students are from Dallas-area suburbs or small towns across Texas, and a noticeable international presence adds to the campus community. Many students at HSU are rooted in a Christian tradition, with some deeply active in their faith and others exploring their spiritual journey. Together, they create a campus culture that reflects shared values while welcoming diverse perspectives.

This recognition adds to a growing list of honors for Hardin-Simmons. The university was named a Military Friendly® School for 2025–26 and, for the 11th consecutive year, was recognized as a College of Distinction, earning multiple titles this year, including Affordable, Christian, Business, Education, Nursing, Career Development, and International College of Distinction.
