Hardin-Simmons University Establishes College of Arts and Media

February 9, 2024

Hardin-Simmons University has re-envisioned its fine arts and communication departments with the establishment of the College of Arts and Media, set to open in the fall 2024 semester.

The College of Arts and Media employs the disciplines of communication, musical, theatrical, and visual arts in training student-artists to imagine, create, perform, present, and produce their artistry through the lens of a Christian worldview. The cornerstone of the foundation of the new College will be reimagined curricular offerings that prepare student-artists for successful careers.

Due to feasibility studies and to allow for more growth, the university’s board of trustees voted to move the School of Music, Department of Art, Department of Communication, and Department of Theatre from the Cynthia Ann Parker College of Liberal Arts into the new College of Arts and Media. The Cynthia Ann Parker College of Liberal Arts will continue to offer a robust number of programs.

Faculty and staff who already teach in these departments will shift their designation to the College of Arts and Media.

President Eric Bruntmyer stated, “Following prayerful consideration and thorough analysis, and with the backing of our exceptional faculty and financial stability, we are now able to re-envision our programs and utilize our facilities to maximize our potential in the areas for Arts and Communications. I’m grateful for those who’ve taught and mentored our students and I look forward to the global impact we can make as we take this journey together.”
