(ABILENE, Texas) — Each year, the Hardin-Simmons University School of Music sends a few very talented students to the National Association of Teachers of Singing conference held at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. From Oct. 30-Nov. 3, six HSU students attended the NATS Texoma Regional Conference, attending workshops, various classes taught by prestigious artists, and even participated in the Student Adjudications, also known as the Student Auditions.

Students Aaron Dominguez, Janet Moreno, and Bryson Rule attended the conference. Dominguez and Moreno advanced to semifinals during the Student Auditions.

Six students from HSU attended workshops and classes taught by prestigious artists, and performed in the Student Auditions where they were given written feedback, met other singers, and bonded with other NATS attendees. Also attending the conference from HSU were Chasen Watson, Jonas Sims, Bryson Rule, and Clarissa Ingalls.

“As the oldest national chartered association, the School of Music program has been in attendance every year since its inception,” said Chris Hollingsworth, Professor of Voice.

Founded in 1944 with less than 100 people in attendance, the conference is now the largest association of teachers of singing in the world. As of today, there are more than 6,500 members in the United States, Canada, and 25 other countries represented in this conference. Over 600 students came to the conference, including 250 pianists.

“The conference was very beneficial for these students,” Hollingsworth said. “Getting to see such a great variety of singing in this region and getting to see what other singers and schools are doing with their talent is absolutely impressive to see.”
