(ABILENE, Texas)–Hardin-Simmons hosted its 11th annual All-State Choir Camp this week. High school students from all over Texas made HSU their home as they learned new skills for the All-State Choir audition coming up this fall.

Throughout the week, students received voice lessons, practiced diction, and participated in group activities. Events like block parties and karaoke were included in the itinerary for the students’ enjoyment.

The students were divided into four Broadway-themed teams; “Waitress,” “Phantom of the Opera,” “Into the Woods,” and “Grease.” Throughout the camp, the students competed in various mini-games and challenges in an effort to win the HSU Tony award.

Students coming to the camp gain an advantage in the audition process, not only because they receive extra lessons and practice, but because they are given the audition music much sooner than others. Typically, the music for the All-State Choir auditions is not given out until school starts in August; however, students attending the choir camp are given the music at the beginning of camp and may take it home to continue practicing throughout the summer.
