Gearing up for the New Year: Campus Safety
The 2022-2023 academic year is right around the corner! Even though classes begin on Monday, August 29, the campus is alive and busy, preparing on all levels to welcome new and returning students home. Leading up to the start of the semester, the news team will highlight various campus resources to show new students (and remind returning students of) the many ways HSU prepares them for success.

A safe, secure, and welcoming home away from home is a top priority at Hardin-Simmons University. HSU’s on-campus police are dedicated to ensuring safe living and learning environments for all students, staff, faculty, and visitors.
This team of friendly individuals office out of Compere Hall, but you will find them all over the campus at all times of the day and night. Patrolling buildings, manning the grill at tailgates, cheering at athletic events, and more, HSU’s police is a resource for all!
Before holiday breaks, Campus Police will check your car’s tire pressure, fluid levels, and more to make sure the drive home is as safe as possible. During finals week, you will often see Campus Police volunteering to serve pancakes at the traditional Late Night Breakfast. Did you accidentally lock your keys in the car? Campus Police can help with that.
While HSU is a safe environment, Campus Police shared tips to ensure your semester is uninterrupted by unpleasant experiences:
- Save Campus Police’s phone number in your phone for easy access: 325-670-1461 This number is monitored 24/7, and someone will answer your call.
- When walking in the dark, try to walk with a friend. HSU Police said, “If you ever feel unsafe while walking alone, call us (325-670-1461).” A police officer will escort you to your destination.
- Always keep your car, dorm, or apartment door locked to prevent valuable possessions from walking off.
- If you lose something, go to the police department (located in Compere Hall), Student Government Association, or the library. These places have lost and found sections where you can inquire about your lost item.
- Never hesitate to ask for help or to say hi!
