Since the inception of a Gamma Beta Phi (GBP) chapter at Hardin-Simmons University in the 1990s, the group has continued to recognize academic excellence and service to the community, offer scholarship opportunities, and provide graduation chords. Adaeze Ozuzu ’25, the vice president of GBP at HSU, shared, “I made the decision to join GBP because of my excitement for service projects and the opportunity to serve that campus and the Abilene community.”

For anyone who has a passion for service and a Grade Point Average above 3.5, this organization is for you. Members are also required to complete six hours of community service each semester. Due to its national recognition, membership can bolster your resume and attest to your academic excellence when applying to graduate schools.

Every year, the club sends an email to eligible students on campus. Embedded in the email is a link to the official website, where you can find out more about the GBP Honors Society before making a decision. A one-time fee of $70 is required to join the society. The proceeds from the fees are used to purchase certificates presented to the students at their induction ceremony and honor chords upon graduation.

“As a pre-med student, GBP has equipped me with leadership and team-building skills, which I hope to put to great use in my career,” Adaeze shared. “I have also found a great sense of community among this group of students, and I am very thankful for this,” she added. Through Gamma Beta Phi, she has made friendships with like-minded individuals who have a passion for their studies and serving the community.
