Champions Weekend: Uniting the Past Present and Future of Cowboy Football

The Hardin-Simmons University football family gathered from April 25–26, 2025, to celebrate the 13th annual Champions Weekend, a tradition that honors the legacy and future of Cowboy football.  

Throughout the weekend, the HSU community highlighted program accomplishments through Hall of Honor inductions, live and online auctions, and a golf tournament. 

The historic 2024 football team received special recognition for their outstanding achievement as the first team in HSU history to complete a perfect 10–0 regular season.  

This undefeated record earned them their second consecutive undisputed American Southwest Conference (ASC) Championship, further solidifying their place among the program’s elite teams.  

Four new members were inducted into the HSU Football Hall of Honor, where their contributions are now permanently enshrined within the university’s athletic program. 

This year’s honored inductees included Brad Boyd (quarterback, 1997–1999), Jason Hall (offensive lineman, 1992–1995), Jake Freeman (defensive lineman, 1998–2001), and Hank Hornsby (defensive lineman, 2007–2010).  

Adding to the excitement, the HSU football team hosted live and online auctions featuring exclusive memorabilia and unique experiences. 

 Among the notable items auctioned were a championship ring from the 2024 season and the coveted opportunity to choose the team’s first offensive play for the upcoming 2025 season.  

These auctions not only provided fans with cherished keepsakes but also served as a vital fundraiser to support scholarships, facility improvements, and future program initiatives. 

The weekend ended with a golf tournament at the Sweetwater Country Club Golf Course on April 26. 

 The tournament featured teams composed of past, present, and future Cowboys, offering a unique opportunity for players across generations to bond, share stories, and compete for awards.  

Overall, the 2025 Champions Weekend reinforced the strong sense of community and brotherhood that defines Hardin-Simmons football.  

Through fellowship, celebration, and fundraising, the event not only honored the past but also paved the way for future success, ensuring that the Cowboy legacy continues to thrive for generations to come.
