Hardin-Simmons University’s Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) was recently featured on Engeneerica. This program is used to take attendance and keep the data of how ACE is used, the number of students who use this program, determine the number of ACEs that should be employed, and more. Dr. Carol Krueger, Director of Undergraduate Advising and Disability Services at HSU,  shared, “Engineerica gives us good data to support our academic support programs.” As a result of being featured in this program, Hardin-Simmons University is now recognized nationally. This means that the ACE program at HSU is recognized nationally too.

ACE is an internationally certified tutoring program at HSU available to all students for free. ACE tutors, also called ACEs, are current students who are highly knowledgeable about the courses they teach. To become an ACE, a student must undergo a 10-hour training provided by the school, certified through the College Reading and Language Association. Beki Denison, Coordinator of Academic Support Services and Test Proctor, encourages the ACEs by providing snacks, drinks, etc. “They put in long hours helping other students,” she shared, “and everyone needs to be encouraged.”

Every student at HSU has access to the ACE program. To find out more about the ACE, students can look at their Canvas page. ACE also provides academic workshops during the school year to provide additional educational information and support to students on campus. In the past year, six workshops have been hosted. “We hope to host six to seven more workshops in the coming year,” Dr. Krueger said.

As the saying goes, “It is better late than never,” it is never too late to make good use of the services that ACE offers. Be on the lookout for workshops organized by ACE next semester.
