Tell us about your journey to HSU.
I heard about Hardin-Simmons University from my high school jazz band director, whose best friend had attended and played in the World-Famous Cowboy Band. Intrigued by the Cowboy Band, I researched and decided to apply.
Tell us about the impact scholarships had on you.
Receiving scholarships allows me to focus more on my studies and music practice without much worry about finances. While I still work to cover expenses not included in scholarships, the assistance with tuition helps a lot.
What HSU organizations have you been involved with?
I have been active in HSU’s jazz band, concert band, Cowboy Band, International Student Fellowship, and I also work on campus in the Media Services Department.
How has your degree program helped prepare you for your future career calling?
The music courses I have taken have helped to broaden my knowledge and experiences on the subject. I have learned how to play and teach new instruments and how to conduct instrumental ensembles, all of which are essential skills for my future career.
What has been your greatest achievement thus far?
I’ve received the Cynthia Ann Parker College of Liberal Arts Music Award, the Cowboy Band Spears Medal, and was inducted into Pi Kappa Lambda music honor society.
What is next for you?
I don’t have a solid answer right now, but I want to teach eventually. I came to HSU to study music so I could teach and influence children for Christ through music. Hardin-Simmons did that for me.
