Faces of the Library

It’s National Library Week, and we are celebrating by highlighting The Rupert and Pauline Richardson Library at Hardin-Simmons University. HSU’s librarians, staff, and student workers tirelessly work behind the scenes to keep the library working like a well-oiled machine. The building is responsible for much more than providing research assistance and a space to study. The library is made up of various departments, where individuals maintain the integrity of online databases and access to academic journals, repair broken books, catalog music scores, maintain a government repository for federal documents, and much much more!
The Richarson Library scarcely has moments of stillness. From interlibrary loans to serving as an archive for HSU and local history, the building remains busy. The library could not serve HSU’s community so well if it did not have incredible student workers.

Mathias Duut
Mathias Duut works at the circulation desk of the library, greeting students with a warm smile and friendly face. Mathias ensures that patrons of the library receive the help they need whether that is in finding a book, printing assignments, or laminating a project. He serves students with intentionality, hoping to make each student’s day better. He described his love for working at the library by saying, “It brings me so much joy whenever I am able to help someone find what they need.”

Samuel Rosinsky
Samuel Rosinsky serves the library behind the scenes as he takes care of interlibrary loans. Interlibrary loan is a service where readers and researchers across the world can request access to resources found at HSU. Interlibrary loan works reversely, as well, where HSU patrons can request resources from other libraries across the globe. Samuel works diligently to process and retrieve these many requests.
Samuel reflects on his role in the library with gratitude for the greater team that he serves alongside. He admires how his team goes above and beyond to ensure that they serve students and other patrons well. Samuel spoke of this stellar service saying, “The library staff is constantly looking for ways to improve the experience of students here and are always dressing up the library depending on the holiday or event.”
