(ABILENE, Texas)–The Holland School of Sciences and Mathematics (HSSM) is committed to “promoting a community of academic excellence for undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students.” Its goal is to guide students in an inviting atmosphere and for all graduates to be “compassionate and transformative professionals who will be life-long learners and community servants.”

The HSSM offers undergraduate degrees in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Biology, Chemistry, Communication Sciences and Disorders, and Mathematics. Environmental Science, Geological Sciences, and Physics are all offered as minors.
The biology program offers a “challenging learning environment where [students] are encouraged to explore the connections between faith and science.”

There are several tracks that students can choose to take to earn their degree in biology. The human health tracks provide a path to health professional schools and graduate programs in areas like medical, dental, physician assistant, pharmacy, public health, and more. Both organismal biology and ecology tracks allow students to pursue careers or further education in areas like wildlife biology, conservation biology, botany, ecology, environmental science, and more.

The biology program also offers many research opportunities to students in cell and molecular biology, microbiology, wildlife, and field biology.

The chemistry program’s professors “provide training in the application of chemical and physical principles to other fields and introduce liberal arts students to a basic understanding of chemistry and physics.” Students are prepared for teaching, industrial work, and further education through this program.

All classes and labs have a student to professor ratio of eight to one or less, which allows students to have individualized hands-on practice with their professors.

The mathematics program offers BA, BS, and BBS degrees in mathematics. The BA and BS degrees train students to be a professional mathematician or to use math in a career other than teaching. The BBS degree enables students to teach secondary school math.
