Dr. Jeph Holloway to Give 17th Annual T. B. Maston Lectures
The 17th Annual T.B. Maston Lectures in Christian Ethics will be on Monday at 7:00 p.m. in Logsdon Chapel and Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in Behrens Auditorium.
The theme of the lectures is “What’s to Become of Us: Christian Hope in a Posthuman World.” The Monday night lecture is entitled “The Rise of the Manchine” and the Tuesday chapel lecture is “Sharing in God’s Triumph.” The lectures will be presented by Dr. Jeph Holloway, Professor of Theology and Ethics at East Texas Baptist University.
Dr. Holloway earned his M.Div. and Ph.D. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, focusing in the field of Christian ethics. He has done additional graduate study at Duke University and Columbia Theological Seminary. He has taught at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Since 1978, his ministry experiences include serving in the positions of youth minister, assistant pastor, interim pastor, and pastor. His most recent publication is The Poetics of Grace: Christian Ethics as Theodicy: Volume 1, The Hope of God’s Calling (Cascade Books, 2013).
In the book’s description, Dr. Holloway writes: “The role of Christian ethics is to take seriously the challenge that, whatever God is doing, God calls us to participate in a distinctive task that embraces our own commitments and labors within the divine purpose.”
Dr. Holloway’s appreciation for Christian ethics mirrors that of Dr. T.B. Maston, for whom the lectures are named.
Maston was a longtime Professor of Christian ethics and pioneering Baptist ethicist, known for his writing and teaching in the areas of biblical ethics, race relations, family life, the Christian and vocation, church and state, and character formation. This lecture series seeks to honor his legacy by resourcing ministers, churches and students every year.
